WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ALL WAITING FOR A NEW MAC PRO?? ISNT THE ONE WE USE NOW ENOUGH?! HOW MUCH POWER DO YOU WANT? THE HIGHEST SPEC MAC PRO HAS 12 CORES FOR CHRIST SAKE, WHAT KIND OF BUISNESS ARE YOU ALL IN!

Audio, graphics and video industry for example?? I wouldn't spend around 3000$ for a machine which is already out-of-date...Don't think that just having 12 cores means having a powerful machine, I spend hours in waiting for video renderings...

It is unlikely that any update will significantly speed up your renderings though. To really speed up your renderings you'd likely want either better software (that supports GPU-optimized rendering), rendering hardware or a render farm of some form.

Twelve cores or no, the current line of Mac Pros is way out-of-date. One might ask, for instance, twelve cores of what? CPUs have evolved significantly in the last few years, both in power and efficiency. Other components have also improved - the system bus on most Macs now exceeds the speed of the fastest Mac Pro. The Westmere CPUs are extremely expensive; one could hope for a better price. And RAM is now faster - and cheaper - on most Macs as well. A 6GB drive bus is also standard on all Macs except the Mac Pro. Imagine, if you can, a Mac Pro with one of Apple's Fusion Drives in the first drive bay. Then there's Thunderbolt. And USB 3.

These are just a few reasons to wait for a Mac Pro refresh. Unless Apple screws up badly, a new Mac Pro will be far superior to the current lineup. One can only hope they don't cripple the Mac Pro the way they have the iMac by eliminating essential features.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a new Mac Pro next year. Remember this is the same company that said that pros would love the new version of Final Cut, only to give us the consumer grade iMovie Pro. Clearly the lack of updates to the tower and the discontinuation of the 17' MacBook Pro are further indications that Apple doesn't care about the pro market. The current version of FCPX is quite a bit more capable than the initial release was. "iMovie Pro" it ain't.

Re: FCPX: please try to re-time a video clip in your project and check if audio stays in sync. It doesn't (at least when using the ProRes codec). And don't get me stated on meta data management... Thus, as of today, this software is a piece of trash on which its users waste countless hours trying to fix its flaws. Sure it will get better - as FCP XI or FCP XII - charging you another USD 400. Paying USD 400 to help them make their software run properly... I have had it and go back to Adobe PPro which, after years of pain, finally seems to come of age.
