Nah, Retina MacBook Pro has line-in/out built-in in one jack - it's the same concept like in iPhone/iPad.

The new MacBook Pro is NOT "Pro" ~ it's a MacBook Air on steroids. it has NO optical drive, which should have been upgraded to a Blu-ray ~ because Pro's use optical drives all the time in the media arts and other professions. Additionally, it doesn't have Ethernet and all Pro's know that WiFi connections when doing serious uploads and downloads glitch out here and there. Sure the new so call MacBook Pro has some great features and sure you can buy an external optical and Ethernet adapter, but the bottom line is that this is nothing more than a upgraded MacBook Air... good move Apple, you've just lost the pros in the media arts.

Is the wifi chipset upgradable to 801.11ac spec via a software update? I looked on the manufacture's website of the chipset, but there is no info about wifi ac spec.

Roman, thanks for the great information. This new Retina MBP suits my needs as a photographer nicely. My only gotcha so far has been the RAM. If I'd realized that I couldn't upgrade later to 16 GB I would have ordered it to begin with.

Yea Apple blew it! I mean it's not like you don't already have a month long wait when you order one! They should throw them all in the trash!

You are correct. I got caught up in looking for a dedicated port. I've changed the article to state that the headphone jack can be used with an iPhone headset. Thanks

"Retina MacBook Pro has line-in/out built-in in one jack - it's the same concept like in iPhone/iPad."

Sorry to disappoint, but this from the Tech Specs page on the Apple website:

"Headphone port
Support for Apple iPhone headset with remote and microphone
Support for audio line out"

In other words, NO mention of "Audio in" for that port.

have you tried actually changing the resolution? Not scaling? I know the System Preferences doesn't allow this, but there are command line and other utilities that do call resolution changes and its possible to get some machines to run resolutions that aren't listed in Display Properties. I'd be interested to hear if someone actually uses a different utility to change the resolution and what happens, or if the hardware is set to only run 2880x1800, and just scale everything and its impossible.

I'd also be interested how X11 works with fullscreen modes that tries to change resolutions... if this machine is hard set to scaling only, it might be very problematic with games.

No problem, just return it for the one you want. I believe you have 15 days.

Pros really don't get it. Apple is creating new pros with new sets of needs and ideas for media creation. For every pro that scoffs and walks away from Apple in disgust, 10 new "pros" line up to buy the new hardware and then take the old pro's job. Adapt or die...or get a PC...you might as well be dead.
