I want to download a rented movie, but I want to watch it after I've downloaded and I want to disconnect from my network and take the Apple TV elsewhere, like my backyard for an outdoor theater. I just downloaded a movie to see how it behaves. I disconnect the network cables and power down then back up again, as if I moved to the backyard. It shows the icon for the movie that I downloaded but wont let me start it without being connected to a network, why is that? I believe that the movie is downloaded to the hardware so it's not that I'm streaming the movie. Do I just need the network to verify that I rented the movie? If I can get my wireless signal in the backyard at a weak strength do I just need to start the movie and then will it function without need for a strong wireless signal?
Thanks,
Ryan

I'm just speculating; but because there is a time limit to rentals, a network connection might be required. One other thing is "authorization" that needs to happen with some content to enable play also requires a network connection. Perhaps if you start the first minute or so connected you'll be able to play the rest out of network. Worth a try?
