As a long time user of this program I might have just got used to the interface, more, I appreciate it being "cramped" (offers a lot of functionality without consuming tons of space). It is highly reliable (see below for the exception), has tons of useful options and handles connections to WebDAV servers a lot better than the Finder (even connecting to Apple's own iDisk SD was at times 2-3x faster than the Finder). The option to set bandwidth limits is highly useful when having downloads coincide with e.g. FaceTime or Skype calls. The integrated dual-pane mode is highly useful as well. I have never regretted that purchase.
The only negative is that the program has some troubles with some Websites under Lion. Some downloads just never start (without producing an error) and some links start the same download twice. Despite many updates they have not really been able to fix this. You can manually exclude problematic sites from SD (so Safari will handle the downloads properly), but this is not the most sophisticated way to do things.

I've only just purchased this and I can tell you that it's in dire need of an update and some fixes. To call this thing a gem at this point in time is premature and bordering on suspicious. That there's no mention of the fact that Yazsoft's Speed Download support forum has been locked since September 2011 owing to the overload of problems being reported is nothing short of shoddy journalism. And since when was £17 considered "low-cost"? It's only a download manager.
I call shenanigans.

Always screws with my system. Bought it as part of a bundle. It behaved until Safari was updated to version 5. Doesn't play well with others. Down Them All for Firefox is much less intrusive a is easy to configure (also cheaper - it's donation ware).
To paraphrase Albert Einstein: Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity - and I'm not sure about the universe.

Indeed. And check out the story about changing the MacBook resolution, which says 'some users report' that preference files are deleted so users should 'be sure to back up and proceed with caution'.
Facepalm.
Lots of us in the business world look with admiration at the reputation earned by MacWorld. But it's an easy perch to fall from, as these two examples show.

I have been a long time user of this app but it has recently been having issues with the new safari & lion. I have tried all their suggestions and nothing seems to work. 99.5% of all downloads go through Safari rather than through speed download. I end up having to to right click on the link and select download with speed download .
I agree.....

Once once a 'gem' perhaps but not since Lion arrived. SD doesn't play nice with Safari. SD still hasn't been fixed and Mountain Lion is just around the corner. Marked down from a 2 to a 4 out of 5 until it works properly with Safari as it used to.

It doesn't work with Lion?
How can that be?
Tell me, what really does work with Lion?
