I agreed to update the iPhoto a week or so ago when the automatic update said there's a new version.

When I started iPhoto after upgrade, it asked to update the database. Naturally, I also clicked ok to proceed. The process went through several steps and then sat there for over a day. I killed the process and restarted it. The software goes through the same steps and gets stuck. Repeated restarts only repeats the same thing. Now I can't use iPhoto since it doesn't give me any chance to access the photos and it doesn't seem to finish updating the database. I can't even look up the version of the software since the menu is not accessible.

Does anyone else have this problem? I would hate to lose all the photos I have on my computer.
