Perhaps your fingers aren't that nimble? I never had an issue with either game misinterpreting swipes. In fact, there were times I knew I'd missed it yet the game received the command and acted upon it. Also, I've never had a problem with the fog, so much so that when you mentioned it I remembered I had forgotten about it. Some of the tree roots I did find difficult to miss tripping over and some cliffs leave you guessing if you need to turn or just fly off it to a stretch below it. The only time it became unmanageable, like the original, is around the 2500m mark when things are just speedy.
Also, unlike the original, all power ups are unlocked with earned coins instead of floating in the air from the beginning.
The main thing to remember is you're paying $1 for an ad, for its real purpose is to get you to go see the movie.
