If you bought an iPhone 4 on day 1 of its availability in June of 2010 on an AT&T 2-year contract, the phone should now be available for unlock from AT&T. I picked up my iPhone 4 on June 24, 2010 and I had AT&T unlock it today. It was a fairly painless process while using AT&T's chat service on their website. All I needed was my IMEI number and account at AT&T and an email where they could send instructions. It took about 15 minutes of chat and then a restore of the iPhone 4 to get the "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked" page in iTunes.
