But what does that mean, "get online"? I'm pretty sure they're not streaming Netflix. Email, browsing the web? Okay, yeah, I can see that. But that's about all one can do until something is done about mobile data caps. Then there are people like me who have coverage at home but it's only EDGE. Recently, AT&T announces they are upgrading my tower... and I won't have data coverage for three months. They are sending me a microcell, which uses my broadband internet, to give me service.

Smartphones have been for some time an item of stature, like clothes, cars and accessories. To appear socially adept, people get a smartphone, many times in lieu of actual products people want/need. To fit in. Like a computer. So it makes sense that phones are used for internet browsing since the other products are shut out for the sake of fashion.

It looks as if mobile/cellular data may be the future. Carriers are going to have to better appeal to customers though to convince them it's a good idea. As it is, they are just poised to nickel and dime mobile internet into uselessness
