I strongly suspect this will be just as popular as the Kindle Fire; an enthusiastic initial surge followed by dwindling sales over time. It won't even blip the iPad sales radar. I am more interested in the big black ball (the "Q") that is evidently trying to compete with the Apple TV square hockey puck. But I don't think it is competatively priced to do very well.

WOW! The specs alone on this thing are amazing--at $200 it's a steal. I can't imagine the other Android tablet makers are feeling too good right now.

I'd snatch it right up, but I already have a Nook Color running CynaogenMOD 7 and love it.

Racing to the bottom even faster than happened with the Windows PCs.

Yup - recipes for success!

I have an iPad, but might get one of these out of curiosity, or I suppose I can wait till Apple releases one in October! I bought my sister, in England, something similar with 4.0 installed for £110 with 16GB storage. What interests me a lot about this is the presence of GPS. I have always wanted a device with GPS, but not wanted to pay the price of a 3G/4G unit!

I love my iPad 2, but the $200 price tag is way easier than shelling out another $500 bucks. It looks good and I think the downloadable map is one of it's best features. And it would be nice to finally see someone else make a product that is actually good and may be able to give Apple some kind of competition. But that presentation was also very Apple like down to the order it today shipping mid July. Very un-Apple like giving $25 store credit and free content. I wonder if there's an expansion slot for more memory. Definitely a Kindle Fire/Nook killer.

I hear ya. I heard about this this morning when it was still a rumor and thought, "Hmm, I've always wanted to see what all the Android fuss was about, but don't want to give up my iPhone or iPad." Now, if I'm really curious, I can check it out for $200 and see for myself. Then dump it on eBay or Craigslist if I don't like it.

Google will probably add downloadable maps to their iPhone/iPad map apps as well. It is not any competition to Apple.

People who say this is a Kindle Fire killer don't understand that the people who buy the Kindle do so because they trust and like the Amazon brand. This tablet will not make a dent in Kindle sales. The women in my wife's book club already own Kindles. They all know and trust Amazon as a content provider. IF they hear about this tablet I think there is a little over zero chance they will think about getting one. They do not think of Google as someone they buy books and movies from. Maybe some day, but certainly not soon.

Regarding the Kindle Fire: the ecosystem is important - but so is the fact that it costs $200.

As underpowered as it may be, the Nook Color has also been successful, even though B&N doesn't have nearly the same content ecosystem that Amazon has on the music and video side... but it does have Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora, which is a pretty good start... and it's only $169, which compares favorably to the Kindle Touch's ad-free version at $139.

I think there's definitely a market for cheap tablets - it remains to be seen if and when Apple will produce a device which is less than $200 but maintains the high quality of the iPad.
