I've been looking at replacing my 1st gen Time Capsule that's still running like a champ (knock on something). Tonight when I was using the Apple Store app on my iPad, I noticed that the technical specs for the 3TB version include a mention that it requires Mac OS X 10.8 or later; the 2TB still says it requires 10.5.7 or later. I took a screenshot just to make sure I wasn't seeing something. The current Time Capsules launched in July last year so I wonder if they're about to get refreshed?

My desktop machine is running 10.7.4 and is backed up to a 3TB Time Capsule. So for my TC, no need for 10.8 to administer it or have Time Machine use it for backup.

My guess is that it is/was a typo/error. The page for the 3 TB Time Capsule on the Apple Store from the website lists Leopard (aka 10.5.7) as the requirement for Time Machine and setup/administration, Tiger (aka 10.4.8) for shared hard drive, and Jaguar (aka 10.2.7) for shared printer:
