Bought a 6 with 3 drive in it and still does not work, they have replced the power cords and still will not load drive.

The drive is not supported by OS X Lion!!! Spent hours with WD. They claim Apple changed some programming from Snow Leopard and WD is working on a firmware update. Works ok on a Windows XP machine on the same network.

I just purchased a 4TB GoFlex with Firewire 800 / USB 2 connection for under $300. While it does
not include any RAID options, I use it for backups and large file transfers (FCP projects).

There is also a Thunderbolt option for the GoFlex, but it adds $150 to the cost ($100 + $50 Thunderbolt cable).

If the speed is slow, why not just get two 3TB MyBook Essentials that can be had for $150 each and configure them in a software RAID?

I am not sure if I agree with this assessment. Whatever disaster (thunderstorms, flooding, fire, theft) you think may hit one of the drives will probably take out the other drive. I don't think platters themselves fail all that often. The peace of mind would be more imaginary than real.
