It would have been great to note what application each was done in. Great job by all though.

Mostly very good work. But I don't get the second place finish for the watermelon. It's a colorful but otherwise boring composition, clearly painted over a photograph. That's an old commercial art technique designed to save time rather than to create art. Not that using a photo is necessarily a bad thing - it's the result that counts. In this case, though, the result is, in my opinion, ho-hum.

On the other hand, the first-place selection is superb. It's hard to imagine the same judges made both selections. I would have given "Clients" or "Oliver" second place honors. Both are far superior to the melon.

Kudos to all of the artists for their work! Please ignore anyone who intentionally or unintentionally diminishes what you have accomplished in this competition.
One other simple and humble request: Please do not let Nick Bilton of the NY Times know of this creative display. He has assured the world that the iPad cannot be used to create anything and we must all wait for the MS (to finally) Surface.
Again, thanks for sharing your talents!

How about asking some of the winners to show us step-by-step how they created the art.

Good thing no one told these artists that the iPad is for consumption, and not creation. Whew! Dodged a bullet there.

Great stuff! And Macworld, you really need to update your slideshow code so we could see these full screen. Right?

I would have given this one by Mia Robinson 1st. place. It's easily the most painterly of the bunch, and very well done overall. I'd be happy to have it hanging on my wall.

While I'm not sure it shoots straight to the top of the list, I admit it is by far my favorite piece. Simply AMAZING! It deserved more than runner-up! Photo realism is great but her work captures so much more in its broad stroked expressionism. She does herself a disservice calling herself "messy, uncoordinated painter." You, madam, are an artist, plain and simple. I want to know, since nothing is listed under "Additional Tools", was this done with fingers alone?

I'm also a fan of Pedro Werner's "Rubina". A seeming simplistic sketch, something much deeper belies the pin-esque strokes, the four color-palette. Amazing, the art of little ol' Paper!

And I agree, MacWorld, a great disservice to these artists and their work! They deserve a larger gallery!

Dear all, thanks for the votes and compliments on my work "Self in Backroom". I do consider myself to be an artist...just a very messy one :-) (always have been)... I do not use styluses on iPad or Phone--I've tried to use one but it never seems to work out as I'm far more comfy with just the fingers (I started out this way). In my gallery, i list the piece "iPad/finger/Artrage" so that you'll know what's used: My link

Thanks again for the compliments! And congrats to all the winners!:-)
