I hope someone has a solution for this strange situation. I have Lion on Intel Imac. Network preference says both ethernet and wifi connected. Neither Firefox nor Safari can get to any werbsite. Message is operation not permitted. Same message with software update. Mail neither sends nor receives although says online. Am connected to same router as another computer which works fine. Have also plugged this computer into another ISP with same result. Using terminal can ping websites and also can log into website with curl command and get download of long text message of info about that site. Have reinstalled Lion and everything else works fine. Computer also prints from a wireless printer. My Ipad connects using same wifi. Who can rise to this challenge?

Not sure if your problem has been fixed or not. Sounds like it doesn't have a DNS server of Gateway listed. Check your IP address.
