Can't wait for the podcasting app to actually work. Currently the advertised syncing with iTunes doesn't work, a podcast listened to or watched in the app will not be ticked as watched in itunes, it's not even tick as watched in the built in apps on the device...

Actually, Apple hasn't said that it syncs with iTunes. From the support document:
Playback Sync automatically allows you to sync your playback position to all of your iOS devices with the Podcasts app installed, using your Apple ID. In order for Playback Sync to sync your playback position, you must be signed in to the iTunes Store using the same Apple ID on your iOS devices.
So, syncing works between iOS devices, but not with iTunes.

I'm a big fan of podcast listening. In my last three cars, I invested in iPhone integration to make my daily commutes more - eh - useful. At first, I was impressed by the new Pocasts app. After a nightly upgrade of the IOS6 beta, it managed to continue the podcast I was listening to the day before in the iTunes app - right from the moment I detached my iPhone from the car audio. Impressive.
Since the initial excitement, I became disappointed, to say the least. Car audio integration does not work anymore - the moment I press for the next song or the next playlist, it somehow switches to iTunes, only never to switch back. Since the Podcasts app gets blocked as long as it is connected to the car audio system, I have to disconnect, wait, look for the podcast I want to listen to, be patient again, reconnect, more patience needed. All while driving my car. This is not only dangerous, it is flat out crazy.
I was very satisfied with iTunes managing all my playlists, including several podcasts playlists and a spoken books playlist, to serve all my listening needs while driving. That's why it is probably a fundamentally bad idea to split the listening up between multiple apps.
Even when the many bugs and glitches were to be sorted out, I'll still need another car system with a new kind of integration to be able to do what I took for granted over the last seven years. This is neither simple, nor functional. Apple, what were you thinking?
