I agree entirely.

I`ve been looking around for a replacement and it`s just not there.

It appears a small-but-hearty band of iGoogle fans have started a "Don't kill iGoogle" page: http://www.facebook....DontKilliGoogle

Yeah, I used iGoogle a lot.
My first though was... Ok, I'll just download some widgets for the OS X Dasboard to replace what I'd had on iGoogle.
But now I know there are no reliable sources for downloading Dashboard Widgets. Is there some greater purpose to Dashboard? I did not see a single App on the App Store targeting Dashboard, and half the links on Apple's web site are broken for Dashboard widgets.

I was able to replace iGoogle in a way I'm comfortable with, but I was surprised to find Dashboard is so under utilized... Is it also destined to disappear?

I agree 100% with the article. iGoogle is my start page. It is my one stop page for connecting to everyting Google. I am very, very disappointed in Google for dropping iGoogle and hope they realize this is not a good idea. For years, My Yahoo was my start page and I do not want to go back to it. I have been so happy with iGoogle, so why should I have to change???

I'd love to see a modern version of iGoogle on my iPad, with the ability to drag photos and videos into my Google+ circles OR to Gmail, to have various Analytics reports show up all at once, see my latest email conversions, and include additional feeds of my choosing (even from - *gasp* - other services Google doesn't own), and more... Google suffers a lot from this issue - building something, not promoting it, letting it wilt on the vine and never updating it, letting it get old, or making the wrong assumptions in their product roadmaps, only to then shut off the service or capability without even asking their users for suggestions first. It's sad really.

Now Google gives me a "Microsoft" moment. iGoogle has been my "web at a glance" since its beta days. What are my alternatives? Yahoo!? Yeah, right. I left them for iGoogle. I'm sorry but Chrome apps and dashboard widgets aren't going to cut it. iGoogle was MY snapshot of news, weather, stocks, email and any other thing that struck my interest. A nice, concise collection of headlines and links arranged the way I wanted all in one place. A collection of icons on my screen and/or web browser isn't quite the same.

I think it's irritating when they come up with something like Buzz and expect people to freak out and love it and it doesn't come out yet the promoted it anyway. Then they have something like iGoogle that lots of people use but they don't acknowledge it. Oh who knows, maybe they got sued by Apple over having an 'i' in front of it.

I'm very unhappy with Google's decision to discontinue iGoogle. I believe the real reason is to push users to Chrome. I hope to find a substitute for iGoogle after which I will unplug as much of my digital life from Google as I can.

I fled MSN and Yahoo and found a really nice website that looked good and spared me all the dumb stuff like dating sites and get rich quick ads and all the crap that the other two sites inflict on us. I live the fact that I get the overview of the news and mags that I like. I am happy with the browser that I have and don't want Chrome and Google taking over everything. Why can't Apple or Safari devise a web page?

Very frustrating. I left all things Yahoo when iGoogle came out and proved to be a better product and gateway to interacting with all things Google. This seems like an open invitation to embrace Facebook or some other company's services instead. I use Google search, Gmail, Google talk, Google+, Calendar, Picasa, etc. because they are all right there at a glance on iGoogle. Without iGoogle, why bother with all the other services? They're good, sure, but not so great that I wouldn't walk away in much the same way I did from Yahoo if there were a better interface with those services. Now the next interface doesn't even have to be better than iGoogle, it just has to exist.

So - I want to dump iGoogle and just use widgets in Lion. I went to find the Macworld Widget - and I get a 404 on Apple's site.

What happened?

A shock. It's been my home page and an important organizer for years.
