Need to try Reeder if you haven't found a good client yet, by far the best out there.

Pity you don't compare this to Reeder in the review. Would like to know the differences.

I'm also curious to hear how this compares to Reeder. Does anyone have experience with both Reeder and Caffeinated?

I've been using Caffeinated for many months. I like the interface, but many of the functions don't work. Rather than rant all over the place, I offer one piece of advice. Go to the developer's web site and DL the demo/trial version, then give a good workout for a week. Try everything that matters to you as a Reader user. Don't buy too soon, TEST IT THOROUGHLY on your Mac against your own needs.

I bought that a week or so ago and yes, it's a nice app - but it seems to be missing an auto-update for unread feeds.
I always have to manually click on reload. Only that makes it not perfect for me.

You're holding it wrong ;-) I've been using reader for ages and I've never had to reload yet. Check the "syncing" pane in preferences. I have it set to update every 15 minutes and also on restart. I though that was the default but maybe not.

You need to try net news wire. Blows all these kiddie apps away. Why? Smart lists. Just like smart play lists in iTunes. I cannot understand why google reader and the others don't have this feature, as it's mandatory to sort through hundreds, if not thousands, of articles.

Every time I try that crap software on any platform it locks up syncing my Google feed, no other software has this problem. Netnewswire is completely useless.

Looks pretty much a Reeder ripoff to me.

I should smack myself in the face =] I can't believe I overlooked that.
Thanks for pointing it out for me.

I've been looking for a NewNewWire replacement. I was one of those who paid for the app, only to see it sold to Newsgator and made free right after. Then the developer took it back (I guess NG abandoned it) and started charging for it again--some claim that it was too much work to keep track of those who paid for it the first time around, or some such thing. I absolutely refuse to pay for it again, from scratch, so I've been looking for a replacement (yes, I know there's a free ad-supported version, but that doesn't change the principal of the thing).

As far as I can see, there's no demo of Reeder since it's App Store only--and it looks like the same is true for Caffeinated. Is this an inherent limitation of the App store--it can't do demoware?

Hope this isn't considered hijacking the comments ... Can anyone recommend a feed reader that isn't tied to Google? I've tried Net News Wire and while it's suitable and gets the job done, I don't know how actively it's still being developed (last update was Oct 2011).

I have been using NetNewsWire for ages. Sadly, it isn't regularly updated, but what it does have still is full-featured and free. I especially like its feature of emailing the RSS item as an HTML page or as a link (just like Safari). It is nice that Caffeinated offers the test drive. I would like to re-test drive it as it matures further, especially if I am going to switch from a free to a paid app.
