I've got an old machine that I'd like to run 10.6 on. I have the upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 disk, but it's running 10.4 so I'm going to need a bridge (10.4 to 10.5) to get me there. My questions are 1) where should I find the bridge disk and 2) will my machine actually run 10.6 if I do make the investment?

The info on the machine is:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B08
SMC Version: 1.1f5

I have received mixed responses to this question. Any advice is appreciated.

Best,.

10.6 requirements <-- definitive answer... and it's yes you can.

AppleStore Snow Leopard disk <-- it's $29.00

why bridge until you have to? you CAN skip 10.5 and go from 10.4 straight to 10.6
and YES. it will run it.
I do recommend you invest in more RAM for best performance.
buy snow leopard direct from Apple and install it.

problem solved B)

Thanks! However, the link that you provided is to the UPGRADE to Snow Leopard, which I already own, and it will only upgrade from 10.5. This machine is running 10.4. What I think I need is the 10.4 to 10.5, and then I can run the 10.5 to 10.6.

I have already maxed out the ram space too. I installed that myself and it's great. I just want to run some newer software on the machine and need to get a more updated system running on it. It will actually be a machine used for specific tasks.

phone the apple store. they will sell you a full install.

The disc in the link will upgrade any supported machine to 10.6, regardless of whether it's running 10.4, 10.5 or doesn't have any OS installed at all. You do not need to upgrade to 10.5 first.

The only discs that required 10.5 were the "drop in" discs and the "up to date" discs, which were made available to new Mac buyers when 10.6 first came out and were never sold to the general public.
And now a word from our lawyers.
