Apple ships final OS X Mountain Lion to developers

Golden Master used to the the version sent off to get printed to disc... thats not really needed anymore since its a digital download, but they still need it sent to the factories to be put on new machines.

You're taking it too literally. When a product is sent out, albeit for download only, it ships to customers (or in this case developers). They didn't say Developer Previews shipped but since this will be the consumer version it will ship to customers.

Roaring Apps is useful but not altogether up-to-date. Anyone truly concerned about compatibility would do well to clone their system and install Mountain Lion over the clone. Then they can test it without putting their working system at risk. Sadly, many people will, as has been the case with every previous OS X upgrade, hastily apply the upgrade without taking even minimum precautions; they will then run into trouble and complain loudly that Mountain Lion is faulty or that they were not warned about potential problems. I have zero sympathy for such careless early adopters. They make their beds and they can lie in them with my blessing. Their experiences will serve those of us with more discretion well. We can (gleefully?) learn from their pain.
If you don't want to be on the receiving end of our gloating, then do your homework and prepare properly for the upgrade. Your failure to do so is no one's responsibility but your own.

So I assume that RSS support in Safari and Mail didn't re-appear at the last minute? What will happen to the RSS feeds I have in Mail when I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

That is correct. As far as I know, these feeds will be removed. A great RSS client (or rather a Google Reader client) is Reeder. Caffeinated is also good, but it doesn't have an iOS companion app.
