Huh? No mention at all of iPhoto on the iPad, but you recommend some 3rd party app???? Weird. Try out iPhoto... much better than the stock Photos app. Works with it well, too.

iPhoto does some lovely things, but photo management isn't one of them.

Does Photo Manager let you see the filename of the photos? This, to me, is the biggest missing feature in iOS Photo apps! (Or did I miss something somewhere?)

No kidding. A massive oversight that makes me wonder if there was some bias there in favor of the $3 app? ;)

OOPs, I just enlarged the attached pic and saw that it does show filename. If only the native app did so!

You caught me. I clearly have a bias toward tools that do what I need doing (in this case, photo management) rather than those intended for other purposes.

The app also allows you to rename images and add captions to them (for the slideshow).

How can I sort images by name or by the custom order I have them in Aperture? I have my photos in Aperture and copy them to my iPad for showing friends and family, but I can't display them in a custom order or by name. The order seems to always be set by date. TIA

Sorry, but with "Photos" on iOS you can't sort... or let's just say if you can, it is a very well hidden function or workaround from Aperture or iPhoto on the Mac.

On the other hand, the iOS App that Chris mentioned, "Photo Manager Pro" is everything the name implies.

I have it installed on every photographer's iPhone/iPad that I consult and do tech support for.

Super easy; just as fluid-fast as Photos for viewing; custom arrangement and sorting; star-rating; creation and deletion of Albums;... and the killer function? Sync and manage over Wi-Fi and with no need for iTunes or a USB connection.

You connect to the program on your iOS device over FTP using a free app such as: CyberDuck(Mac/Win) or FileZilla (Mac/Win/Linux)... OR... through your browser of choice.

Create your own directory structure, send the whole thing with one click. Check it out.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing to do with Linkus, except love their program.

Thanks. A couple quick questions, If I have all my photos in Aperture (sorted, labeled, meta-dated, etc., do I have to copy them into Photo Manager Pro or can I maintain them in Aperture? Is Photo Manager Pro two programs one on the Mac and one on the iPad, or does it only run on the iPad. Where does PMP get photos and photo information from?

I do have this app. A question, when I put photos in Photo Manager, is it making a duplicate of the same picture in the iPad2 photo app? If so, then when I delete pictures from the iPad2 photo app, they are still in the Photo Manager app?

With all this copying, you wind up clogging your iPad.

In my opinion iPhoto for iPad works extremely well for both organizing and editing and gives very complete metadata in an easy to read format. I have not used Photo Manager Pro so cannot comment on that, but iPhoto is a healthy and robust photo app. I use other apps for editing and specail effects such as Snapseed and PhotoForge2.
