hello,

I've decided to consolidate my 400 plus CD collection that I've accumulated since 1984.

Basically I want to copy my CD s to a hard drive, I've found XLD using Apple Lossless as its import settings suits my needs.

These CDs I have purchased and are already in my iTunes @ 320, so this backing up to hard drive is mainly to clear some space in this physical world.

So to check this workflow I've used XLD to extract from the CD, then I added it to my iTunes by:

file / add to library, and navigate to hard drive.

But even though my iTunes import settings are set to:

import using: AAC Encoder, and Custom 320 kbps, they are imported as Apple Lossless

any suggestions?

DUH !!!

sometimes the simplest is staring at me.

Make another iTunes library and import at Apple Lossless, nominating the external drive as the place to put the media.
