I am shooting pictures with 1st generation Canon Digital Rebel. I have two identical MacBook Pros both running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. One will open the jpegs in preview just fine the other laptop says "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize".

There are multiple posts on this error message on the internet but most focus on the file being damaged not an issue with the computer. The file also cannot be opened with photoshop elements 9, but graphic converter opened it immediately.

Any thoughts appreciated, M. Bushey

They're definitely JFIF images? Not raw?

Yes, they are jpegs, my Canon camera was the first one sold as a camera with full 35 mm lens swap capability, I do not believe itis capable of raw images.
