So if I disable Safari, I assume the system no longer has a default web browser. Does that mean another browser can become the default, or do app links simply stall? It's time to eXpeRiMenT!

Answer: Many apps are coded to directly access Webkit and show web pages themselves. Many apps send link calls specifically to Safari and nothing else. Therefore, if you disable Safari, links in these apps just blink and stall. Nothing happens. It's Safari or nothing. :-(

Turning off YT in > Restrictions will also hide the icon. BUT -> This causes some issues with other apps that use embedded YT videos, they won't play anymore.

You could even bookmark the YouTube mobile site and put it on your home screen if you'd like

I've been using the YouTube "mobile" site with Safari for a long time. But this is an awesome tip, to keep the YouTube app from opening when a video is triggered from, say, a Google results page.

Exactly. I tried this tip when it was first mentioned on Mac OS X Hints back on May 25th: Force YouTube links to open in mobile website on iOS
I abandoned it because of the issue mentioned by Chris, above.

This is very timely for the Olympics. I think I get better content through the YouTube mobile site than through the YouTube App. Thanks!
