By the way, while I understand that part of MacWorld's role is to be pretty rah-rah where all things Apple go, I wouldn't mind seeing a little more skepticism and even grumpiness enter into the magazine's journalistic mix. Apple badly needs the occasional glass of cold water thrown in its face.

I wouldn't say that our coverage of Mountain Lion has been entirely rah-rah. Clearly we like Apple's stuff, but Jason Snell's review and podcast pointed out some of the failings (or not entirely enthralling) aspects of Mountain Lion.
Our job in the first days is to inform--what's new, what you can do with it. Later, we examine what doesn't work, what's oddly constructed, what takes some getting used to, what we wish hadn't been changed, what this means for the future. In short: Stay tuned.
Now, please, back on topic.

Neither would I. That's why I wrote "part of MacWorld's role is to be pretty rah-rah ..." I put two two fudges in that sentence -- "part of" and "pretty." Surprised you missed 'em.

Sheesh, back when I worked at a magazine, the first thing we said when someone offered us some ideas about or reactions to our coverage was "Thanks for the feedback." What's happened to manners?

Tragic, isn't it? Ask someone politely to stay on topic for the benefit of others reading a thread and they get all shirty.
This is exactly why we have a Feedback forum.
Now, pretty please, with sugar on top, back on topic.
