So let me get this right. Apple goes to painstaking efforts to make upgrading the OS require just a few clicks. Then Macworld writes three dozen articles to make it complicated? Thanks.

Though Apple just released its latest version of Mac OS X, Mountain Lion, many users still haven't even adopted Lion, its predecessor, and are actually running 2009's Snow Leopard.
Almost half of all Mac users, or 45.5%, still run Snow Leopard as opposed to Lion, which has a near-35% adoption rate. REPORT FROM LA TIMES
Still have found not one compelling reason to change. To the contrary, software is not compatible, in place is a complicated, completely unnecessary set up of change that requires, yes, dozens of articles to explain. And for the record, this is not going from OS9 to OSX. These things have not been thought out. They are hurried, minor and irritating things with Mattel like names. The only thing that seems to have its head in the clouds is Apple.

That doesn't make sense. What's so complicated about a clearly indexed article outlining all of the new features?
And how does that make upgrading complicated.

There are many users who never upgrade their OS. Lion did not sit well with many because some of the features because they weren't refined until Mountain Lion. Also, I'm not aware of huge incompatibilities over Lion. If you are judging ML based on Lion, then you are doing yourself a disservice. Your assertion about hurried things may have been true (to some users) in Lion but it sure sounds like you are just making the same assumptions about ML.
For every long time Mac user that complains about change, two new users find MacOS X more inviting and easier to use.
