So I have a macbook pro (2011) and am trying to install windows xp. I created a exFAT partition using disk utility to install xp on. I put in my xp install disk and restarted. I held down alt and selected the disk. I waited while everything loaded and then it had a screen that said press enter to begin installing windows xp, press r to repair existing something something, press f3 to exit. I pressed enter, but nothing happened. I pressed f3, nothing happened. I had to hold the power button to shut it off to do anything. I tried connecting a usb keyboard, it still didnt work. What is going wrong here? How can I fix it?

first... your partition should have been created using BootCamp Assistant ....... located in your Utilities Folder.
not sure if what you did can be repaired using BA or not, but you might wanna try it.

Lot of things wrong here:
- exFAT is not a supported boot filesystem for any version of Windows.
- Any partitioning for Windows needs to be done with Boot Camp Assistant - this creates a special dual GPT/MBR partition map that can be read by all systems.
- I'm pretty sure you can't even install Windows XP on a 2011 MacBook Pro. Apple doesn't provide XP drivers for this system. You'll need Windows 7.
Boot back into the Mac OS, delete the Windows partition, set it up again with Boot Camp Assistant, and install a copy of Windows 7.
