Excellent review, Serenity, about a praiseworthy product. I am wondering if you've gotten or sought feedback from someone skilled in the art of Japanese brush calligraphy? I have no skill at all in that, but I do admire the work, and I understand it to be quite a challenge to properly paint. If the Jot Touch can perform even fairly well at such a task, I'd think it to be quite an achievement.

The latest version of PDF Pen for the iPad also supports this stylus.

If the stylus wasn't so pricey, I might be interested. Maybe they'll make a cheaper model.

Nice review. I'm an engineer and have been seeking a stylus for the iPad that is the equivalent of a pen so I can draw technical diagrams and write equations. Could you please comment on the accuracy of this stylus when drawing thin lines. Is there an offset of the pen point to where the line is drawn? If so, does the offset vary depending on where you are drawing on the screen. Does the palm of your hand resting on the iPad's surface mess things up?

I totally want this, but I am holding off until the next generation adds palm rejection. Then, this is going to the the ultimate note taking tool for students and other knowledge workers (http://www.joachim-s...ic-handwriting/).

Till then, I am sticking to my Jot Flip.

The long-awaited JaJa pressure sensitive stylus will be shipping in a couple more weeks. It promises 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and uses high frequency sound rather than Bluetooth.

Animation Desk:
Finally something sensible arrived! Have been a loyal Animation Desk user but it's lack of touch pen support really hinders me from creating better works. I personally don't care too much for the Retina Display support. The quality and beauty of hand-drawn animations generated by the app is simply unparalleled. The nice combo of Jot Touch and the app makes it really stand out in this market. The pen helps a great deal, especially with the details that I want to show in my drawings. This combo deal arrives just in time for the annual animation competition held by the developer, I'm ready to win something.

The offset with the Jot is extremely minimal. I quite like it for drawing thin lines and drafting. There's a little offset as you come closer to the corner edges, due to the construction of the iPad, but it's negligible. Unfortunately, you can't lean your hand against the iPad's surface without something like a Hand Glider (http://www.thehandglider.com).

Serenity, will you be doing a review of the JaJa as well? I'd love to see how it compares to the new Jot before making a purchase decision.

Here's what they sent in reponse to a request for access to the SDK: somewhat strange for a company wishing people to integrate with their product:

" I'd like to know a little about your app before I send you our SDK. I'll also need you to sign an NDA to protect all the hard work we have put into building the Jot Ready SDK."

I've been waiting eagerly for this and finally have it. I've tested it thoroughly and am disappointed.
The pressure sensitivity at this time is only set for opacity. No override is available yet to assign this setting to brush size.
Also the levels of sensitivity is not registering on my stylus. Maybe it defective. The manufacturer said the apps are partially responsible for this since the apps sets the limit to how well it "reads" the stylus.
Until the apps catch up with this stylus I would pass for now. I can see why Adonit, the manufacturer took so long to release this. I can only guess the other competitors will be releasing theirs soon and Adonit wanted to get a jump on sales.
