Or you can just mute the speaker from the keyboard or on screen icon.

Why is that app useful?

Will it survive a reboot and will it stop the startup chime?

You don't get it. This keeps your speakers muted while the volume is still useable, like with headphones. When I need to use headphones I need to go to the control panel and switch the sound output to headphones. Not a big deal but this app might be useful...for $.99 but not $5.

I'm on the same page as DavidKisley - will the app stop the startup chime upon booting? Or does anyone know of other alternatives that will silence the startup chime?

$5.00 to mute your speakers? For $4.00 (plus transportation) I will come over and mute them for you.
