Finder preferences missing after Mountain Lion installI have have 2 users set up

I installed Mountain Lion over Lion, where I had two administrative users set up. After installation, the principle users finder preferences are missing.I reinstalled ML over the previous installation with no effect. I tried to delete the principal user, intending to reset him but it would not delete. Tried using the keyboard shortcut to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion other than a clean reinstall?
