Went out and bought their new 3T drive with "Backuo Plus" with USB 3 for my rMBP. Came home and deleted all of the Seagate software on it and repartitioned the drive. To find out why I bought the drive in the first place is the real story
Decided I wanted to add a partition to and existing Seagate 3T drive so I shrunk the first partition - success - went to add an additional partition and Disk Utility crashed! This is a drive with existing data on it.
This is totally repeatable with Seagate drives using either USB3 or FW800 docks. Apple tech support said I had to reformat the drive and copy the data back on to it before it would work. SO I go out and buy the new 3T drive. Brought it home wiped the drive by creating a new partition. Resized the partition then went to add another smaller partition and IT FAILED AGAIN!.
This is on a brand new rMBP that has been flawless running 10.8.1
Apple said it will not get the attention of the engineers and will not likely be fixed. The Apple forums are filled with Seagate issues (drivers and software installed and not installed)
So Kean - try this little test with a 3T drive and tell me if something is broke or not. I'd sure love to hear a fix for the problems I'm having with all of my 3T Seagate drives. If you have the same issue maybe YOU can get Apple's attention.

Spent $150 on a Seagate GoFlex wireless capable to do regular backups of my very large photo library. The box said it was made to work with my MBP and Lion. I have not been able to get it work correctly once. It was a mess, and then I couldn't even get my MBP to stop recognizing it on my network even after I deleted all of its files. It showed up under multiple names too, because I'd installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the drivers/software and changed the name. Then both kept showing up as on my network. I searched and searched and never did find where in the bowels of my system my Airport network was finding Seagate, even after I'd deleted everything I could find that was related to it. After two weeks of struggling, I just unplugged the damned thing and it's been sitting there for a few months collecting dust. I couldn't return it, so I'm contemplating using it for a door stop.
