Absolutely, they have to make it so it would update only existing contacts, not adding everything from FB.

BTW, can anyone tell me how to make FB sound notifications work? I've turned it on in the settings but they don't make any sound alert upon arriving.

I didn't expect to like the integration as I'm not really a big fan of Facebook to begin with, but I decided to give it a shot. Within 3 hours, I turned it off…...…Unable to cleanly edit the Facebook info, whatever, but having it jump to contact's Facebook email/phone as default? Gross.
Also, I bet I'm not the only one in this camp: Many of my contacts have changed their phone number since signing up…sent a few txts and made calls to bunk numbers before I put two and two together.

You can also go to the Contacts app, click on Groups in the upper left corner, scroll down to "All Facebook" and uncheck it. This gets rid of people who are only Facebook friends and weren't already in your contacts list, but it does leave photos and Facebook email addresses that were added to your existing contacts.

I almost clicked the button when setting up iOS6 on my phone, but I just don't trust Facebook that far. Really glad I left it off.

Exactly! I just want it to "sync" my existing Contacts with Facebook. Not add all my Facebook friends to my Contacts app! My Contacts are a mess!!!

What happens when you don't press "Update all" but allow Contacts to be used by Facebook?

Well

The whole idea is bogus. Why can't I set the preference BEFORE I sync? I do not trust FB so I would be paranoid to let it "sync" my contacts with FB.
I do want to keep my private and professional lives separate so I only need and option to post to FB.

To be clear, turning this on does not add all those contacts to your phone's local contact database, it just subscribes to a Facebook list of contacts which is available in the contacts app (and other places on the phone).

That means that if you turn off the syncing as shown above, all those contacts it added won't show up any more and you won't have to go delete them manually or anything. It also means that contacts "added" by Facebook won't be synced via iCloud to your other devices, unless you turn on Facebook contact syncing on those devices too.

The only time the Facebook integration actually does anything to your local contacts is when you actually hit the "Update" button yourself.

That will subscribe you to the Facebook contact group (which will show those contacts in the list and other places) but won't make any changes to your local contacts, like photo or Facebook profile or anything. If you later turned off the Contact switch and never hit the update button, everything would be exactly as it was before.

It's nice to have your existing contacts profile pictures got updated from fb but it doesn't make that sense to create new contacts and just add their fb email.

Thank you SO much. A super quick and easy fix that I spent probably 30 minutes finding. I will spread the word. I did not want several hundred contacts added to my iPhone contact list. :)
