Thanks for the review. I always get excited to read about audio equipment because I love my music. When I saw the title, "Libratone Zipp is the portable AirPlay speaker to beat," I got very excited. After reading, though, I'm very disappointed.
The author reviews the wool covers, the shape, the button placement, the connectivity and such, but barely even scrapes the surface of what this product even does: play music. It's mentioned that it produces full sound, but that's about the extent of it. The article title promised a comparison with its "speaker to beat" bit, but no comparison was shown. How can one review a speaker without talking mostly about the sound? One and a half very, very short paragraphs is a slight, at best. What about sound specs such as frequency response? What about volume and stereo separation?

Frequency range: 60-20.000 Hz.
Max. output: 96 dB SPL/ 1m.
Stereo separation: Minimal to none, because of its shape and "FullRoom" effect.

I just got into the Libratone Zipp and compared it side by side with the Bose Soundlink. Libratone was much-much louder and had a deeper bass. I didn't like paying the extra $100 and had high expectations and wasn't disappointed. I will be returning the Bose. And the Bose is a fantastic piece of technology and design but I'm pretty excited about the Zipp. And the music on the zipp is great for walking around the kitchen or backyard.

thanks for your comparison with the bose soundlink which i also own and love it for portable use, but for listening at home the sound is too muffled, therefore i am thinking about the zipp now.
does the libratone zipp play music when an iphone is connected through USB? will the iphone be charged as well when the zipp is running from battery? is the zipp's battery replaceable somehow? i have a bose sounddock portable which is some years old now and the battery isn't holding any charge anymore, it just dies after 30 minutes, thank godness at least i can buy another one. what about the zipp? will i have to through the whole speaker away?
