With iPad mini launch, what to do with your 'old' iPad?

Can anyone point me to comparitive *ratings* of online sell sites? I had a truly bad experience using the path offered by the recycling program on the Apple site. Some years ago, I pursued it for a MBP. As you described, the price paid was wildly different from the estimate given online. I was honest in my description of flaws, but the process was, as you pictured above, a simple Yes/No checklist. Upon receipt of my MBP, they returned an absurd estimate describing what they thought were "severe" flaws affecting marketability. (But, then, who the heck am I?) I might almost as well have donated the (*perfectly* functional) box to a local school...

Here in the UK, I always use face-to-face selling website Gumtree.com to sell my gadgets. No seller fees like with eBay, and you can generally get a good price, and people come to you to buy it!

This just happened to me with Amazon. I sent in my HP Touchpad & they quoted an estimate of $125 for a unit in "fair" condition. It had some minor scuffung along the bottom edge; no dead pixels, no cracks in the screen, all the buttons work, the front facing camera works - they quoted me $24 because it is in "Poor" condition. I won't be using Amazon for any kind of trade-ins again.

bought the iPad 3rd gen Oct 1 for $600 + change -- apple is now selling refurb'd (same model) for $470. apple's not only shorted me on the tech side but also on the dollar side. Not a 'blind-sighted' apple groupie like so many here -- living in the real world and can't afford to do anything but keep it.

An alternative for users in the US, I believe, is gazelle.com. It's advertised by many of the tech podcasts.

We can also try to use the things we buy for more than 5 minutes instead of upgrading every time a new shiny toy hits the market.
Or probably not. It'd be so out of fashion to use what we have.
Cheers

In the real world, why are you complaining about being shorted on the tech side? What is the difference between your iPad 3 and the iPad 4 that would drive you to want a new one? Did your iPad 3 stop meeting your needs?
And on the money side, short changed you how? A _refurb_ is selling for $470. That means used. And after living in the 'real' world for a bit, prices always drop after you buy something, and something new comes out.
So I don't understand: you've got an iPad I'd like to have. Use it. Enjoy it. Save your money or better yet, donate it.
