I bought the iPad mini as a possible combined computer/Kindle eReader substitute for travelling. I wanted to leave my MacBook Air and my Kindle DX at home, and just take the mini.

I'm please to say that after a week's use of the downloaded Kindle app for iPad, my Kindle books in my Kindle library all read easily and very well on the iPad mini. The mini weighs about half of what my big Kindle DX reader weighs, but with the sepia option on the Kindle app, it is a great reader and I will leave my heavier Kindle (and my MacBook Air) at home. I have old eyes and feel no eye strain. I don't really need a retina screen, but will trade up for that when the Mini comes with it.

The one downside for me is that I accidentally keep on advancing to the next page by touching the right side of the mini screen, but I am training myself not to do that.

Some longer battery life would also be nice.

I've just bought my wife (Mother's day) a Mini. She loves it--more than her iPad 4--and finds the "non-retina" display more than adequate. But this review does the iPod Touch 5g an injustice by suggesting it's an offense to the Mini to compare it to a "mere" Touch 5g.

For the record, I can attest that the Touch 5 is the ultimate "spoiler"--so good that I have no use for any of my previous iPods, including two Touch 4g's! The Touch 5 is not merely evolutionary: it's revolutionary--a triumphant piece of nano technology. Compared to the Touch 4, the Touch 5 is much faster, more powerful, offers twice the storage space--and did I mention its much thinner and lighter with a bigger screen and bigger sharper picture? It's a mini-computer the size and weight of a credit card! If the iPad Mini is truly a bigger Touch 5, that's the greatest compliment you could pay it. There are numerous tablets out there, but no other company has approached the sophistication and efficient operation of the iPod Touch 5. (One "con": the built-in post for looping a hand strap to the Touch was a mistake. The post won't close over the strap, leaving the Touch vulnerable to slipping loose at any time. Best advice: ignore both the post and the hand-strap or risk breaking or losing your iPod Touch 5.)
