Google made the fundamental decision years ago, this is just fallout from that decision. Given Google's more recent actions in terms of user privacy, its interesting to see them losing share to an ethical decision from years ago, back when they were still viewed as actually pursuing their ethics; "Don't Be Evil" and all that.

In my experience, the data Google was using for maps was less than reliable outside of the largest cities, but the fact that they displayed a transliteration of road names was a lifesaver for expats who couldn't read characters. Hopefully Apple will fill that gap with some usability enhancements.

Well, since Apple dropped Google maps, I don't use their map app either. Address links in mail don't work properly anymore and to be honest I will buy my next phone based on it having google maps. I should have the choice to use what I want. I used google maps all the time and now I find my iPhone less useful. When the term is up I will not be getting an iPhone again. Apple, stop changing stuff. It worked better before.

Good luck with that! Google maps set me astray on many occasions. Especially when the iPhone first came out. I paid 10/month for At&t's navigator service for turn by turn. I thought they were blocking service but it was actually Google. Maybe you deserve Google. Not everyone should have the privilege of owning an Apple product. I find it amusing how Android lovers brag about silly features when the OS can't do useful things the iPhone had since day one. How about opening vcard contact files, PDFs, Word, Powerpoint, or Excel files on the OS level. How about emoji. Just about any standard file except for pictures or video that you send to an Android device you get a text saying I can open this file. Maybe it worked better after a lot of work, but keep in mind Apple developed the Google App you were using before. Google supplied the data.
