I realise it'll never happen, but I really wish that when it came time to bid farewell to the dock connector, that Apple had chosen to go with a standard Micro-USB. I realise there are compromises (power levels, transfer rate, etc), but given that basically every other phone on the market now uses Micro-USB, and that Apple was changing ports anyway, that they'd taken the opportunity to make a phone that can be more easily recharged if one is at a friend's house (or somewhere else without easy access to proprietary iPad/iPhone chargers).

I certainly hope Apple doesn't move away from the standard chip that everyone else in the WORLD is running. It took a long time to remove that roadblock, why head back down that path?
This would remove the easy functionality of running other OSs on the machine (which there are many valid reasons for) - either in emulation or natively.
Apple, please don't go that path.

I am glad Apple didn't choose USB for its devices -- I have a Sony Reader which uses one kind of connector, a different cable for my nieces Blackberry and nephew's Nokia, and a 3rd cable for my Nokia D5000 dSLR. All the connectors are different. As I use high quality cables, they cost me an arm and a leg.
I purchased the 30-pin to USB adapter when I bought my iPhone4S, and if I ever acquire a new iDevice, I will also get the Lightning-to-USB adapter.
