Some people just have to add comments without any earthly clue as to what they're talking about. Without getting technical, Totjr, there is a lot of differences between the iPad mini and the iPad 2. I bought both the iPad 4 and iPad mini when they came out so I could make a comparison for "my needs" which is what everyone should do.

The iPad is HEAVY...so if you're going to use it a lot for reading books, get the mini. And also the mini has much WHITER white background than the iPad 4, which, when side-by-side, appears a little greenish (that's the Retina display).

Is the Retinia display clearer...of course...but for text I don't see any difference at all. Is the A6 processor faster...of course...but my apps all opened just as fast and since none of the A5 power has to be used for driving that Retina display, or opening an app's display to a larger area on the iPad 4, you will not notice any difference at all.

If anyone wants an iPad that is somewhere between an iPhone and a laptop...the mini works perfectly. I'll be returning the iPad 4 before my 14 days are up and keeping the mini.

So I stopped by my local Apple store today and had my hands on a new iPad Mini. It is a very nice device. Definitely lighter weight than my iPad 3. Definitely smaller and easier to hold in one hand with it's (nearly) 8 inch form factor. Less expensive too, if price is an issue. All good, up to the display. That's when this new iPad fell short........ waaaayyyy short of my iPad 3 experience.

For a user who has been "retinaized", going back to a non-Retina display is almost physically painful. Especially on a smaller screen. I have a Retina MB Pro 15 inch and a retina iPad 3 10 inch. I have become VERY accustomed to this level of display quality, so for me to carry around an iPad mini sans Retina, just isn't in my future. The text was blurry. Full of visible dots and annoying to the eye. For any current retina display user the new iPad Mini display is sure to disappoint. For a new Apple customer who has never actively used a retina quality device, they will probably love the form factor, portability and the display quality, for what it is.
