Somehow I have thrown away my desktop folder. I cannot drag anything to my desktop. disks and drives still show up, but i can't save files to the desktop or drag and drop to the desktop.

It also disappeared from my sidebar in finder.

I have restarted several times, run applejack... all to no avail.

I booted from my backup and all is well.

I rebooted again from my normal startup disk and dragged the desktop from my backup into finder. It shows up normally, but it still isn't there.

all fixed now... I dragged the desktop folder from my backup drive into my startup drive... duh!
