Review: Matias Quiet Pro keyboard offers old-school keys without the noise

When I was in the market for a mechanical Mac keyboard it came down to the Matais Pro for Mac or the Das Keyboard for Mac. Other than æsthetics the main difference is that the Das Keyboard puts enough power into the USB hub to charge my iPad. It does this by using a keyboard cable that ends in 2 USB plugs, which is mildly inconvenient because it takes up 2 USB ports on your Mac, but it was worth it for me.
That being said, æsthetics are a large reason we choose Mac, no? I wish I could buy the keycaps separately from Matais and pop them on my Das...

I've had a Tactile Pro 3 for about a year and a half and believe it's the cat's meow. However, the 'W' key repeats without prompting unless and until the system preference repeat setting is set near maximum. This means the other keys take an looooong time to repeat when you want them to repeat. The noise is not an issue except wwhen on telephone calls/conferences. Not a big deal.

I have this keyboard and quite like it. I agree with this review but wanted to add this: The customer service from Matias is the best in the industry. I wholeheartedly recommend this keyboard.

I had a Tactile Pro for a while at an old job and really liked it. But its loudness was a problem.
So I'd be very interested in buying this new Quiet Pro model. But it's just not very good looking. I wish Matias had done a better job with the industrial design.

Woulde buy it in a second if it were bluetooth. I don't get the mass appeal of a wireless keyboard for a desktop computer. I don't move my keyboard around, so I don't really care if it has a wire. Plus, I get the extra USB ports.
The only aesthetically pleasing way to use a wired keyboard with my Mac Pro would require a USB cable run of 10-12 feet, while the line-of-sight distance is only about four feet. I'll stick with my wireless keyboard.

"Very good review, full of the details I want to know about," wrote Moeskido. I agree. I found this review because I was reading another of Peter Cohen's reviews of a keyboard, and both are full of the details I want to know about.
Thanks!

I think you got lucky. The USB hub in my Das Keyboard for Mac does not charge my iPad mini, and tech support told me that was par for the course.
