So all Apple had to do to get turn-by-turn from Google on the iPhone was kick them out of IOS? And They can put the money they were paying to Google into their own mapping software, while IOS users can choose between them. It looks like a win for everyone.

Before Apple was finally able to bring turn-by-turn to iOS, I was using the Tom Tom app. Since purchasing my iPhone 5, having used turn-by-turn in Maps, it works well, though I haven't yet figured out if it contains a "night mode"? I was using it the other night, and unlike the Tom Tom app which automatically adjusts for day and night time driving, I haven't figured out how to make changes to Apple's version.

Someone showed me a display invert colors option under Accessibility which can also be set up as a triple click of the home button. Works okay for night reading of text pages, but not sure what kind of experience it will provide with Maps. YMMV
