"I also believe—unlike many others—that Apple should not be asking what Steve Jobs would have done in a given situation. That, in my opinion, is almost surely a recipe for disaster: A company and management team that would always be second-guessing itself, living in the shadow of a leader who has become more myth than man, and constantly risking the danger of looking to the past instead of looking toward the future."
Thankfully we know that isn't the case. Starting with Jobs himself citing the Walt Disney example.
People just don't get it. Steven knew, for a long time, he wasn't long for this world. When asked what his greatest product ever was, without hesitation he replied "Apple itself".
All the "What would Steve do" articles are cheap words designed to get hits or sincere analysis from shallow and ignorant observers. For all the "professionals" who pontificate on Apple, the number who show a complete lack of depth, understanding and insight is simply breathtaking. Professionals my a$$....

I think you CAN reasonably say what Steve would do – and that's to do everything possible to put out a great product. That sounds obvious, but if you look around you, ask yourself how many of the manufactured objects in your environment could claim to be a product of that philosophy?

It's worth recalling in this context what Jobs said to his biographer, Isaacson, near the end of their sessions together. E.g., and I'm obviously paraphrasing, what he said about how the last thing Tim Cook (and Apple in general) is to spend their time discerning what he (Jobs) would do in any particular context, rather how they should hew to understanding what the best thing they think and feel they could do -now, here, and based who they are, what Apple and the competitive environment and tech is, etc.
Which I realize is a course, just another meta-take on the "WWSJD" meme, i.e., "Well, first of all he wouldn't do what 2009 Steve Jobs would do."
Oy. Reality is complicated.
