Fantastic as always, Macalope! Simple correction though: "how to breath" should be "how to breathe".

I got my LTE-enabled iPad Mini on Thursday. While I definitely notice the grainier screen compared to my 3rd-generation iPad, I do think it is the right form factor. I likely will keep the 3rd-gen for now, but once a new iPad mini is released with a Retina Display (I figure in a year or two), I will likely use it as my sole iPad.

Thank you Macalope. Brilliant as usual.

Doug Kass (the poster boy of the evil side of Wall Street) has immortalized himself as his last name is now part of the English language.

From the comments following Philip Elmer-Dewitt's piece, I learned that you can call a stupid analyst or hedge fund manager a "Kasshole". If you make up numbers, you can say you pulled them out of your "Kass". And if you lost money by selling shares early based on a FUD spreading shyster, you have been "Kassed". I am sure that your imaginative readers will add to this list.

”Years ago the Macalope bought a very small amount of Apple at about $20 (since sold). Years later he did, of course, wish he’d bought a ton. Sadly, he doesn’t have the facilities of guys like Kass to actually make that happen in retrospect, to just make the stock go back down to a price he’d want to buy some at.

Or the moral ambiguity."

Nicely stated.

Looks like your eyesight is better than mine I have been using it for a week and I have yet to notice the grains which you saw, it is not that I have not use an iPad 3 before.

Retina is great for text but other than that well your meat is my poison.

No disrespect meant.

Got to wait for the sales numbers when Apple, Inc. reports for the current quarter. The rest in meaningless speculative drivel!

I got mine last Monday. And I have to agree that all this talk about the lack of a retina display is lost on me. The screen is amazing, with clear text and sharp graphics. Reading is very easy on the eyes(and mine are over 60). Not only that, it's fast in response to commands. And the sound is surprisingly good!

Mr. Kass and Mr. Winer should read the Macworld article "Steve Jobs and the 1927 Yankees". Maybe then all the Steve-Jobs-would-never-have-allowed-this talk can finally be put to bed.

"[record scratch, slide whistle, loooong Whoopee cushion exhalation]"
The Macalope really should do podcasts. They would be worth it just for the sound effects!

Captain, tricorder readings indicate this is a colon-based life form.

I am surprised at all the 'screen is grainy' comments.

When the iPad 2 was introduced, nobody complained that its screen was grainy. The Mini has the same number of pixels in a smaller screen, which means that the ppi is higher in the Mini. Logically, the Mini's screen should appear sharper than the iPad2's.

If anything, the Mini should look better than the iPad2. The mere fact that a higher resolution screen (Retina) is available does not make the Mini's screen 'grainy'.

Apple really needs to bring Logic Pro to the iPad and have it integrated with Logic X on the Mac when it comes out. There are so many possibilities between iPad, iCloud and Logic on the Mac. And why they are at it build in the best plug-in architecture into Logic on both the iPad and the Mac so the functionality can be infinitely extended by third parties.

Don't get me wrong Logic Pro 9 is a fantastic DAW with a good plug-in architecture, but there is much that could be improved in Logic X. Logic X on the iPad would be unbelievable.
