I had the same problem. I complained loudly via twitter and the ATT Customer Service Representative - Nicole at ATT contacted me via phone. It took several tries and multiple calls into customer service.

What is absolutely true though is there is no fee to transfer and you do not need a new SIM card if you have either let your account run out (has to show cancelled in the system) or never activated it in the first place.

I evaluated Mobile Share for my wife and I and the old family plan for the iPhones + the iPad on the Apple plan with AT&T is still cheaper. I'm not sure who the Mobile Share plan is supposed to benefit.

Both Verizon's and AT&T's plans suck unless you actually plan on adding tablets to it. Otherwise you're spending $70 or so on shared data plus $40 per smartphone as a "line" fee (up from $10/line normally).

The only real benefit is adding tablets at $10/pop instead of paying $20-$30 per device on separate plans.

Basically, "sharing" is a way to pay more money.

Ditto - I think we might be lucky that we are on these old plans, and don't have more than two phones.. someone at AT&T thought they were a deal to someone.

Why not just use the hotspot feature on the iPhone, let the iPad share the data and pay nothing extra for the iPad data usage? I have a wifi iPad and an iPhone 5. Works great and no extra $10 month.

I would have to upgrade the data plan now on my iphone 4 to get hotspot capability and that would still limit the speeds on a new LTE iPad so I'm thinking this probably isn't the best option for me. Looks like I can get a better data deal with verizon so I'm heading there instead. They certainly don't make it easy...

I was in Germany last summer and purchased a sim card with 1GB of data for a month for $10. When I purchased it I asked what would happen if I exceeded the 1GB and was told that it would still function but at a reduced bandwidth. Worked great all over Germany.

My Audi has a built in wifi hotspot that allows me to connect iPads, iPhones, and laptops (up to eight devices) at unlimited data for $15/month total with T-Mobile.

My old iPhones have talk only for prepaid rate on T-Mobile, and wifi at home and in the car.

ATT plan is qualified rape.

This is exactly the reason AT&T is the most hated company in the USA.
