Did you try a soft reset? The home and power button trick?

My messages were bypassing my iPhone and all going either to my Mac Pro or MBPro. If you're running a Mac and an iOS device, turn OFF Messages.app on the Mac and stop all notifications on both devices.

Do a reset of the iOS device (hold down Power & Home buttons, ignore the red swipe and let go when the apple logo appears -- apologies for teaching grandma how to suck eggs).

Turn notifications to ON only on the iOS device.

This is exactly what is happening between me and my wife since we upgraded both of our iPhones to iOS 6. Text messages will go undelivered, but occasionally get delivered after several hours to several days. I've done every tip listed, including soft and hard resets and rolling back to iOS 5. We don't have messaging active on our MBP, so at this point we can only conclude its a problem originating with iOS. We came to this conclusion because every one of my friends who are experiencing this problem have an iPhone. My only remaining question is how many people experiencing this have reported it to Apple and not just gripe on a forum?

Restoring back to factory settings and then using iCloud backup can resolve this. Settings>General>Erase all content and Settings. Then at the setup screen restore from iCloud backup. Make sure that iCloud backup is current. It works. And without being tethered to a computer. Not sure what causes it.

If it's Verizon, try to dial *228 and select "2" to re-provision your account.

Try to turn off iMessage, wait a minute than turn it back on. That fixed issues a friend and I had between iPhone 4 and 5 as well as iPad 3. We did this on each device and any problems we had were solved.

I had similar thing happened on iOS 6 beta and official. The tech support couldn't pinpoint where the problem laid too, so here's what i did. Just delete the contact, and add it back manually.

Hope the same works for you.

Really, you "rolled back to iOS 5"? And how exactly did you do that? Will power?

It's a pain, but it can be done, unless iOS6 has introduced something to prevent it.

I did it when I first installed iOS 6 on my 4S. You have to search for the IPSW file online. There should be a handful of sites to download it from.
Then, connect the iPhone to iTunes.
Hold down the Option key then click on Restore.
You can now select the iOS 5 IPSW file.
Click Restore... Done.

WARNING: Apple stopped signing iOS 5 about a week after iOS 6 came. This is probably a no-go at this point. You can give it a try, but it'll probably fail.

Since we're talking about SMS messages here and not iMessages, I don't think the issue has much to do with iOS6 or your phone in general.

I'd recommend you both contact your service providers and complain about the issue and ask them to fix it. I've had this issue in the past, and it boiled down to one of the service providers having some issue.

And if you're on a GSM-based network you can easily confirm that it's not your phone, just put your SIM card into another phone and try sending an SMS to the guy.

Ever heard of Cydia? Saving SHSH via a little app called TinyUmbrella?

Delete all message threads & contacts from both devices. If issue still occurs contact your providers. Issue may be in the gateway between the providers.
