I opened an iTunes account many many years ago with an email address different from my iCloud (me.com) account a few year back. I'm trying to sync my movies purchased in iTunes onto my iPhone and it won't let me because the iPhone is linked to my iCloud account (as I use it to sync my contacts, calendars, etc.). Is there a way to merge both accounts so it knows that I'm the same person with the same devices?

To my knowledge, Apple has not yet (and may never) provided a way to merge two Apple IDs (your iTunes account and your iCloud account are both an Apple ID).

However, you should be able to set the iPhone to use the iCloud account JUST for iCloud but then use the other account for your iTunes Store purchases. This is what I actually do. See the section labelled "Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases" in this Apple Support document:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895

I will note that if you have been buying Apps with the "iCloud account" rather than the "iTunes account", then this might create some problems. I honestly don't know how "tied" Apps are to an account. I know that Movies and TV Shows are copy protected and tied to an account. Music is generally unprotected these days (you might have some older protected music files if you have had them for years and never took the option to "upgrade").
