I'm very impressed with Fantastical for iPhone…despite the iOS-imposed limitations. I've tried many third-party calendar alternatives over the years and this is the first one to earn a place on my dock. I'm already looking forward to Fantastical for iPad!

It's worth noting that there's also a full-month calendar view which is a nice complement to the DayTicker for longer term planning.

"Worse is Fantastical’s inability to invite others to your meetings and events—another iOS limitation."
Actually, Fantastical asked to access my Contacts in order to be able to invite them to events if required. I declined since I don't use this feature at all. Not sure if that inviting limitation would exist if I had granted that access.

Nice review Lex. Any thoughts on Fantastical vs Siri when it comes to actually creating appointments? Clearly Siri is more universally accessible, due to having a system-wide shortcut. Do you feel Fantastical's natural language processing is sufficiently better than Siri's to make it worth pulling the app up instead of just relaying the appointment via Siri?

I use the Mac OS X version constantly. I'm still looking for the App Store link to purchase this iOS version. Don't you put the link in stories that you write about products?

I've tried using Siri to add events in fantastical and it works pretty well. One problem is that I can't find an easy way to enter the three spaces to indicate that the next word is the name of the calendar. Any ideas?

When you have the App Store app selected on your phone, in the keyword search, just type the word "fantastical" and it'll pop right up and get you to the point where you can purchase it. It's really that simple, search for the name. Make sure you spell it correctly because it's not the "fantastic" (it is) - rather "fantastical".

You get around the "invite issue" by having a shared Google Calendar with your spouse. Whatever you create, she sees - and vice versa. Has worked well for my wife and I.

Yet another review not mentioning QuickCal, which is doing natural language creation so long before the app reviewed here.

On an iPhone 5 with ios6, new Calendar app events have a field for "Invitees." Similarly, when editing an event in Fantastical there is a field for "Invitees." This appears even if the event currently has no Invitees.
