Wow. Can't wait to see how the pundits spin this!
They will downplay the US numbers and play up worldwide numbers where Android is still on top.
None of it really matters. As long as iOS keeps enough market share to dominate software development resources, Apple will continue to win the largest chunk of profits. Fluctuations in market share on a monthly basis are unimportant.

I don't think apple is concerned with market share, as long as they can continue to increase sales consistently, maintain high customer satisfaction and make a good profit.

While I do believe market share is important to Apple, Google, Microsoft and other competitors, I do not think Apple cares much about these numbers. Reason, Apple creates both hardware and software. So, for them, the most important comparison is far more likely to be the number of UNITS SOLD from each hardware manufacturer. I think this type of number is more important, because it is a more realistic gauge of how many cell phone owners have an Apple product in their hands. With continued law-suites and legal fights, the most leverage comes from the volume of unit sales, not the volume of sales of a single OS. So, if a market research company wants to report on something of more value, tell me how many iPhone 4, 4s & 5s are sold in comparison to any single line from another manufacturer, just for fun, why don't you show us Samsung numbers ;-)

Interesting indeed, when you consider that at least one other survey claims that Samsung alone is outselling Apple in the US smartphone market to the great cheer of so many anti-Apple zealots.
Now we need to know the real truth; who is selling more of what (and let's use real SALES numbers and not just "shipped" numbers.)
