Mac 101: Dealing with the Dock

This combo of settings/apps has made the dock much more useful for me:
-Minimize windows into application icon Setting
Saves dock space as mentioned above.
-HyperDock: http://hyperdock.bahoom.com/
Gives the Windows 7-esque taskbar window hoving.
-HyperSwitch: http://bahoom.com/hyperswitch
Besides it's main features, the best is that it allows you to actually bring the selected app to the foreground when command-tabbing even if the app has been minimized (default behavior is it doesn't, just gives you the menu bar but no windows).

Between Launchpad and Application Switcher, I never even use the Dock any more.

I keep my five most used apps in the dock. Everything else gets launched with Spotlight.

I was told to not use the secure delete as I have '12' mac air with ssd. Seems it does something to the drive?
I have used onyx and did a clean secure but have not done the secure delete you mentioned.
so - what is the story about the secure delete on a ssd? Does it do something to the drive?
I enjoy the articles - have learned more during these past few weeks than going to one to one at the apple store. Maybe I didn't ask the correct question or I didn't even know how to ask the question.

"When you minimize windows they can disappear into the Dock with one of two effects (there’s a secret third effect, but not one we’re yet ready to look at). "
so what is the third secret effect???? you did not bring it up again....

It's at the bottom of that paragraph:
"If you’d like a better look at what’s happening, hold down the Shift key and then click the yellow button; this action causes the window to minimize in slow motion. To cause your window to reappear, just click its icon in the Dock (you can do this in slo-mo too, if you like)."
It's cool but nothing I would use.
