But to sell items that might cost more if made here, people need to know (the) item will last longer.

That was true fifty years ago. They haven't manufactured Macs in the US in a quarter of a century. During that 25 years I have owned a dozen Macs and I've never owned on that wore out. The second oldest one I have around at the moment is an 8100/80 that I bought back in 1994 (this is so old that the late Jerry Garcia of the Greatful Dead bought an identical machine). I still fire it up when I get nostalgic for mid-nineites games and it still works. The original startup drive works too. (I used it for years for high-end graphics and magazine publishing). My oldest is a 512 K with original drive. It still fires up as well.

BTW, You can only keep a machine totally up to date for years and years if the only thing that remains is the case. Too many things change over the years to make a truly modular system work (faster drives require faster busses, etc).

The unions will set the whole place on fire within seven years before You know it. So Apple might as well stay in China where all The rest of the worlds electronics are made.

Apple take my advice and spare yourself the union headaches; stay right where you are.

You are correct on this. Union will destroy the Apple experience. They have destroyed most if not all US manufacturing of consumer products in the US. Magnavox, RCA, Zenith even Sony's plants here in the US closed because of the high cost of Union shakedowns by union thugs and criminals. The Auto industry was destroyed the same way. Unions do little but fatten the pockets of those who run it. The irony is those who support a union are blinded so much by ideology that they ignore the very same behavior conducted by the union officials they claim the corporations do. It's the lie of the left, watch this hand while I steal your wallet with the other. Ah this is the true Mafia.

"“The consumer electronics world was really never here,” Cook said. “It’s a matter of starting it here.”" Uh huh. Tell that to Motorola and Magnavox. Tell it to RCA Victor and Western Electric. Hell, try telling it to the former Apple Computer, Inc..

Interesting too is that he said the US doesn't have enough trained people to run the factories. Horse manure. These two facts lead me to think Mr. Cook isn't as bright as he appears to be.

I think this is great news. Sure, they could be doing more, but this is a really good start. It sends a strong message to other companies by saying "Hey, we're one of the top companies in the world, and we make some products here", and I can't see where that isn't going to help.

So many people seem to think that Apple is doomed without Mr. Jobs. I really don't think thats the case. I like the direction the company is headed and have a lot of faith that they will still be one of my favorite brands going into the future. Good job, Mr. Cook.
