I have a very large music collection that I keep on my regular hard drive.

I am also starting to get a very large collection of movies and would like to place them on a separate external hard drive.

My question is; can I somehow point ITunes to my hard drive for music and the external drive for movies so I can use my Apple TV to do either?

thanks

Burt

Yes, you should be able to do that.

You will want to turn off the "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library" in the Advanced tab of the iTunes preferences.

Then if you put the Movies files on the external drive and then add the Movies files to the iTunes library from the external hard drive, it will leave them there and "point to them" on the external drive. iTunes will still dump any newly purchase iTunes Store content, including Movies, into your default iTunes folder, so you would have to move them later if you want them on the external drive.
