I like Maps. Cleaner. Less cluttered. I especially like that the default is to assume clear road traffic unless marked red. I laugh at the mess of green in the map of Boston that accompanies this article - totally unnecessary and distracting. I have no plans to go back to GoogleMaps.

For those of us that live outside the US, Apple's maps are entirely unusable. I've found that large towns don't make Apple's maps where villages do, roads don't exist, and motorways have incorrect numbers. Try using that for navigation! Google Maps is a welcome, and necessary return to my home screen.

I just did a search of local restaurants with Google maps and four within half a mile of me are in the wrong location one of them is 2 miles in the wrong direction out in the country how is this better than Apple's maps?

Don't equate downloading to converting. It's a "grass is always greener on the other side" situation.
Once you have the actual Google Maps, you find plenty of warts on it. First, Siri is louder than the Google girl, so you can easily miss Miss Google's instructions. If I do miss one of Siri's orders, I can ask her, "Can you repeat that direction?" and she will with updated distances. I don't see how to do that with GMaps.
I can't figure out how to store, recall and organize locations in GMaps. It seems possible, but it is not as intuitively obvious as Apple's way to do that.
Google may be renowned for handling massive quantities of data, but don't forget that Apple's forte is interface. Apple's data is bound to improve over time, but there is really no cure for crappy interfaces. Just ask Microsoft.

Please don't presume that you represent all Maps users outside of the US. I have used it several times in both New Zealand and Australia without any issues. In fact, I like it.
However, I am glad that you have an alternative if Apple Maps isn't delivering.
